How to Find the Correct Typewriter Ribbon

Not Sure What Ribbon Fits Your Typewriter?
There are many different kinds of typewriter and, not surprisingly, they often take different shaped ribbon spools. If you're unsure whether a ribbon will fit your typewriter, the best solution is to take a photo of the ribbon spools currently installed in your machine. You can also take a photo of the area where the spools attach — this helps show the size and shape of the spindle that goes through the center of the spools.
Send Us Photos for Help
Once you have the photos, you can email them to Clackers Clinic at nztypewriter@gmail.com or text them to 021 0852 7756. From your photos, we can identify the correct type of ribbon and spool for your typewriter model.
After that, just let us know whether you prefer an all-black ribbon or a red-and-black ribbon.
Ribbon Prices and Pickup Info
We sell replacement typewriter ribbons for $20 each, plus postage. Pick-up is available by arrangement from Onehunga, Auckland.
Most ribbons come pre-wound on plastic spools. If your machine needs special spools, we’ll help you transfer the ribbon — or we can do it for you.
We Supply and Install Typewriter Ribbons
In most cases, we stock ribbon spools that will fit directly onto your machine. Our ribbons are compatible with most portables and desktops. However, some vintage typewriters use unique spool systems. In those cases, we may need to wind the new ribbon onto your original spools or directly onto the spindle clips on your typewriter.
Not sure how to do that? No worries — we’re always happy to talk you through the installation process. You’re also welcome to bring your machine to us. We offer ribbon fitting and installation at our Auckland typewriter workshop in Onehunga.
